Build a musical foundation on keys with a jazz forward approach, gaining the skills you need to become the confident musician you dream of!

Carl Nash (b. November 8, 1995, Oakland, CA) is a pianist, composer, bandleader and producer rooted in gospel, jazz, R&B and soul. Raised at Starlight Missionary Baptist Church, he learned piano at the church after-school with organist Ron Eperson, supported the choir on drums, and developed an early habit of learning by ear. A torn ACL in high school shifted his focus from athletics back to music, prompting him to pursue formal study at Chabot College (music theory, jazz big band and combo) and later San Francisco State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 2019.

Active in the Bay Area scene, Carl performed solo jazz at Geoffrey’s Inner Circle and joined the genre-blending band No Lovely Thing (appearing on the album She Be). He’s been a longtime contributor at Revelation Christian Fellowship, playing piano and organ under MD George Epps II, and credits mentors including Jon Palacio, Michael Zisman, John Calloway and Derek Hall. During the COVID-19 shutdown he continued livestream performances for multiple churches while working outside music to stay stable. Married to Terilynn Diggs (1/1/2021), Carl now balances performing, composing, producing and teaching, passing on musicianship and practical performance experience to his students.

Carl finds builds his lesson plans on the interests and goals of his students, often emphasizing robust music theory, ear training, improvisation, and special attention to finding and developing their personal musical intuition.

In His Own Words

“As a teacher my goal is to make sure that my students understand the different contexts of being pianists, an entertainer, and have solid musicianship.

I have patience, and I will always encourage my students to do the best they can.”
